Scientists battled with some natural occurring incidence of nature until1880s people believed that living organisms could arise from non-living matter. It is term as spontaneous generation. The belief in the spontaneous generation of life from nonliving matter was introduced by Aristotle, who lived around 350 BC.
The Greek philosopher Aristotle (384–322 BC) was one of the earliest recorded scholars to articulate the theory of spontaneous generation, the notion that life can arise from nonliving matter. Aristotle proposed that life arose from nonliving material if the material contained pneuma (“vital heat”).
What causes them to conclude that living organisms could arise from non-living matter?
These are some of the observations?
1.Maggots arise from rotting meat.
The earlier scientist due to these observations and more was how they stated that organisms arose from organic matter.
In 1668, a debate was strike by Francesco Redi, an Italian scientist, designed a scientific experiment to test the spontaneous creation of maggots by placing fresh meat in each of three different jars.
He proved why maggots are always seen on a lump of rotten meat so he performed a simple experiment.
Conclusion; Redi successfully demonstrated that the maggots came from fly eggs and thereby helped to disprove spontaneous generation.
